Summer camp is here! The first four weeks of camp have been amazing. LAAC’s camps are intended for rising first graders through rising sixth graders, and are offered in both the morning and the afternoon. Camps are themed differently each week for a wide variety of art-based fun, and range from underwater adventures to theater camp! Recent camp additions: LAAC is excited to have just launched new family, teen, and ceramics camps this summer. Featuring themes like Whimsify Your Wardrobe, Plein Air Painting and Wheel Throwing, these week-long* camps are perfect for post-elementary youth. Some camps are four days, not five. Daytime Performance Series, Indigenous Murals of New Mexico featuring Robin Dunitz: The Arts Council is proud to present a colorful Powerpoint presentation by Robin Dunitz that will feature more than 50 murals by Indigenous artists found throughout New Mexico, from historic paintings by pioneers Pablita Velarde and Pop Chalee in Albuquerque to more contemporary work beautifying walls in cities, small towns and on tribal lands. Exhibit closing July 3: The 4th Annual Come As You Are show will close on Friday, July 3. Come celebrate community art, and look forward to the next show, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, opening Sept. 11.

The Art of Self Stewardship: The Arts Council will host a workshop facilitated by local educator Kristine Coblentz designed for women who are experiencing or are recovering from chronic stress and burnout to develop a practice of mindful, creative self-stewardship. Participants will create handmade journals for practicing simple art techniques and noting insights during the four week class, and will leave the workshop with their own mindful making kit. Samizdat Summer Crafting Series: LAAC is offering free activities for teens and families this summer.
