SPORTS News:
Los Alamos County Parks and Recreation and the Los Alamos Hockey Association (LAHA) have partnered once again to bring another summer season of youth roller hockey to the Los Alamos community!
The kickoff session for the Summer 2026 season was held 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink. The County is hosting the weekly event, and LAHA is executing the on-rink activities.
The inaugural session was a great success, and all the participants had a wonderful opportunity to trade in their ice skates for roller skates and experience roller hockey on an official, NHL-sized outdoor rink.
This event affords a great venue to really get out and enjoy roller skating on a safe and smooth surface that is difficult to find in public access areas around the county. For those who are not currently interested in or involved with regular ice hockey play during the winter season, it also serves as an opportunity to try hockey in an informal setting and for everyone to get outdoors, exercise, and work on their conditioning and stick-handling skills for the upcoming ice hockey season.
There is something for everyone to gain at all levels by participating. The number of players that turned out for this first session clearly shows how much interest exists within the community and how important the new ice rink pad and cover structure (scheduled to be installed next spring) will be for continuing and growing this activity within the community for future summer seasons.
Come out and take advantage of this fantastic, community-wide, summer activity that is geared for all skill and experience levels. Let’s Roll!
Event Details:
Supervised By LAHA/USA Hockey Coaches – Operated By Los Alamos County at Los Alamos County Ice Rink.
The event is open to everyone in the community ages 12 and under, no registration or affiliation with LAHA required, just an entry fee/cost of $4 per participant paid to Los Alamos County upon participation.
Scheduled to continue every Wednesday (4 to 6 p.m. at Los Alamos County Ice Rink) until the start of winter ice skating and hockey season, with the possibility of expanding to additional days and age groups (including adults) depending upon interest and continued participation levels. Future announcements will be made as options are expanded.
Parents/Players are required to bring their own equipment; the minimum required is roller or inline skates, a helmet with a face mask, gloves, and stick – other STRONGLY suggested PPE include shin/knee/elbow pads. This is non-contact/no checking format!
Session structure will generally follow a format of skating drills (30 minutes), then hockey drills (30 minutes), and finally end with scrimmage/game play (60 minutes).
