Baggage Claim Kicks Off Co-op Summer Showcase Series

Local rock band Baggage Claim kicked off the inaugural Co-op Summer Showcase at 6 p.m. Friday, May 15. The concert was held at Los Alamos Co-op Park, adjacent to Los Alamos Schools Credit Union at 1010 Central Ave. This free concert was the first in the new series, which offers music from local musicians at this outside venue as opening acts for the main Friday night summer concert series. This is a true community concert series that features only local musicians. The purpose of this series is to build community spirit and to raise awareness for a new non-profit organization that will bring local music events such as this series and the Winter Rock Festival. The community is invited to come out each Friday to enjoy local music and support the food and vendors there. Anyone interested in supporting the organization, performing at the series, being a vendor, or helping with the shows, please contact Paul Peterson at ppeterson2112@gmail.com and visit ‘Los Alamos Co-op Summer Showcase’ on Facebook. About Baggage Claim:

Baggage Claim is in its third year. It began as a family band of Paul Peterson and three of his children. They performed two summer shows over the last two years at SALA and performed in February at the Los Alamos Winter Rock Festival. Paul’s oldest, Sean, who drums and plays guitar, is away at Penn State where he recently completed his third year, and on Thursday took the MCAT.

While Sean’s away at college, the band is left minus a core member. Enter Ela Hinojosa, a sophomore at Los Alamos High School  (LAHS) who drums in her own rock band, Kiss My Chaos (performing June 12 at the Co-Op Concert venue), and with the LAHS band, and her father, Tony Hinojosa, a PE teacher at Mountain Elementary School. Together, they have joined the band with Ela providing killer fills and beats and Tony singing soulful yet raucous songs.

They join Liam Peterson on bass, 15, who loves robotics and playing hockey for the Los Alamos Hockey Association (LAHA), and Emilie Peterson, 12, on vocals, who loves art, dancing, and performing on stage.

Paul, the founding member and organizer for this concert series, works at Los Alamos National Laboratory and has been playing guitar for about 25 years.
