Mogul skier Stephen Boone of Los Alamos began his 2019/2020 Rocky Mountain Freestyle Season Dec. 21 at an event in Winter Park, Colo., where he finished 1st in his age class (U15) and 11th overall (U13-U19). 

Last weekend Boone had an event in Vail where he finished 1st for his age and 7th overall. He is the only male Competitor from New Mexico at the Comp level, but two other boys, Munayo Ferreira and Koji Park, are Pajarito skiers competing in the Rocky Mountain Qualifier Series.

Boone, who was born in Los Alamos and grew up skiing Pajarito Mountain, now trains and skis for the Winter Park Competition Center Freestyle Team. He spent the summer training on water ramps and snow in Park City, Utah, and Beartooth, Mont., and has been to Winter Park for training five times since mid-November. 

Boone also spent a few weeks skiing and training at Pajarito in January, and his remaining competitions are in Telluride, Copper Mt., and Jr. Nationals at Winter Park. 

Boone participates in numerous fundraising activities to assist with the high costs of training and competing. He is holding his 2nd Annual Mogul Clinic at Pajarito the weekend of Feb. 22-23, and a Meet & Greet Video session/fundraiser 5-7 p.m., Feb. 22 at Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op. This is a community event open to anyone interested in supporting a local skier. Details for joining the Clinic should be posted around town by the end of January, or email vance.f.boone@gmail.com.
