Local Hotel Event Center Project Canceled

PLACE News:

Los Alamos County has canceled the hotel event center project for now.

PLACE, a nonprofit that builds sustainable communities had been working with the Los Alamos community on a catalytic vision to anchor their new Creative District.

The community’s vision was for PLACE to develop a live/work community for creatives (artists, inventors, technologists, scientists and artisan/makers.)

Also included would be a boutique hotel event center, creative commercial and retail space, a restaurant bar with nightlife and new homes for people of all incomes.

Unfortunately, a series of budget impacts have left the County of Los Alamos facing a $10 million budget deficit. In response, the County has canceled the project.

It is no reflection on the proposed vision. PLACE continues to support the community’s vision for downtown Los Alamos.

A bold, catalytic project that increases residential opportunities, brings cultural and environmental tourism to town, captures some of the spending that leaks to surrounding towns, and provides a base for some of the world’s most promising inventors and entrepreneurs will be exactly to sort of project that will diversify the job base and reduce vulnerability to such cuts in the future.

PLACE is disappointed to suspend our work in downtown Los Alamos. We support the people of Los Alamos and their vision for the future.
