MUSIC News:

The Renegade Mountain Band, a local country band, is set to battle it out against three other New Mexico bands in the finals of the Country Cares Competition at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at the Dirty Bourbon Dance Hall and Saloon in Albuquerque.

The winner will open for Clint Black at Sandia Resort Aug. 3.

Los Alamos locals James Carothers (lead vocal, guitar), Dave Hemsing (vocal, bass) and Trent McCuistian (drums), as well as Albuquerque musicians JR Ross (steel guitar), and Dean Rimmer (banjo, guitar) will perform at approximately 7:50 p.m. Sunday night.

Other bands participating in the finals are the Sean Healen Band, Simon Balkey and the Honky Tonk Crew and The Porter Draw.

Crowd applause the night of the competition, as well as an online voting component (set to go live July 14) will help determine the winner. Anyone interested in riding a bus from Los Alamos to the event in Albuquerque Sunday night should email the band at renegademountainband@gmail.com or visit their Facebook page at the following link and express interest to reserve a seat: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Renegade-Mountain-Band/336449773126607?fref=ts

If enough interest is shown, a bus would leave Los Alamos at 5 p.m. and return at approximately 11 p.m. Cost to ride would be approximately $15 per person.

The Country Cares Competition and the Clint Black concert will benefit St. Martin’s Hospitality Center, a non-profit organization that provides shelter/food programs, mental health services, job assistance and other critical programs to homeless and near-homeless in the Albuquerque community.
