Lobos, Still Never Been Kissed!

The University of New Mexico Lobos Men’s Basketball team lost their bid for their first ever sweet sixteen berth. The Louisville Cardinals defeated the Lobos 59-56 in the third round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in Portland Oregon on Saturday Night.

The game was a nail biter. The Lobos seemed to be in control of the ball initially and looked to be superior to Louisville but then Louisville gained their strength, leading by 15 at one point in the game.

The Lobos senior Drew Gordon had a good night with 21 points and 14 rebounds but was injured near the end of the first half. Gordon’s injury may have made the difference in the game. Gordon was able to shake off the injury and complete the game but one has to wonder what the difference would have been if Gordon was at his full strength the entire game.

The Lobos attempted a comeback but were unable to get the job done with their weak three point shooting and missed free throws as Louisville made things happen and built a lead. The Lobos were able to making it close, pulling to 53-51 with 1:36 left in the game. Louisville was able to keep their lead to the end.

The Lobos have returned to New Mexico and were met by a crowd of cheering fans at the airport. Lobo fans have enjoyed a great season and hope to try for that “kiss” again next year.
