Longtime Los Alamos resident Mike Lippiatt has been hired as the new manager of the Meeting and Visitor Bureau for the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation.

Katy Korkos of the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce has been managing both vistor centers in Los Alamos and White Rock for several years and will now turn over day to day operations to Lippiatt.

“I’ve known Mike for several years and his organizational skills, his knowlege of the community and his volunteer spirit are an excellent fit,” Korkos said. “Also, Mike’s friendships and connections with the people and organizations in our community that put on recreational events will be beneficial to his new position.”

Lippiatt began his new job Monday, Feb. 25.

“I have enjoyed many aspects of my career from way back when when I was a golf pro to my more recent days working in corporate America,” Lippiatt said. “But I have always been happiest when I am promoting, marketing and helping others. Now I have been selected to man that very job description right here in Los Alamos.”

Lippiatt explained that the position of Meeting and Visitor Bureau manager has many opportunities in the areas he enjoys most.

“There are so many amazing things that our Chamber of Commerce does and what’s yet to be done is even more amazing,” he said. “There are no drawbacks to this position. I have read and re-read the detailed job description and everything I will be doing is going to be a blast, and it’s what I love to do.”

Lippiatt said he knows many of the people he will be working with and commended them for their dedication to the community.

“One of the coolest things about this position is who I get to work with. Katy Korkos and I have worked on projects together before and we are already a good team,” Lippiatt said. “Then you have Kevin Holsapple, Cindy Whiting, Suzette Fox and the list goes on. Just good people doing good things every day. And now I get to be a part of that … it’s hard to put into words how much excitement I am feeling about this incredible opportunity.

“I’ve been looking very hard for something that I really want to do for the next 12 years or so and then coast in to retirement. I can tell you for sure, this is exactly what I was looking for. I get the notion, from time to time, that this is what I am supposed to do, what I should be doing. It’s so awesome to know that the next decade of my life is going to be a blast … how many people can say that!”
