The Sante Fe Symphony announces the lineup for their 2025-26 season.

The Santa Fe Symphony: Season Opener

Back by popular demand, violinist Alexi Kenney kicks off our 42nd season with Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, the piece that he performed in his debut with The Santa Fe Symphony in 2015—and considered one of the most difficult violin concertos ever written. You will be enamored by Kenney’s technical skill and the musical intensity of the piece! Our Season Opener concludes with Brahms’ First Symphony, a work full of rich harmonies and musical emotions.

The Santa Fe Symphony: From The New World

Under the direction of guest conductor Maximiano Valdés, The Santa Fe Symphony presents critically acclaimed percussionist Svet Stoyanov performing Emmanuel Séjourné’s jazz-inspired Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra. The program also features music of the Americas, including Sinfonía No. 7 from Puerto Rican composer Roberto Sierra and Dvorak’s seminal Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” an homage to life in the U.S. at the dawn of the 20th century.

The Santa Fe Symphony Chorus: Choral Masterworks

Carmen Flórez-Mansi leads The Santa Fe Symphony Chorus in Choral Masterworks, featuring the voices of our children, youth, and adult choruses performing some of the most beloved choral music ever written.

The Santa Fe Symphony: Handel’s Messiah

The Symphony’s annual Messiah performance at the Lensic is a Santa Fe tradition and a “can’t miss” event of the holiday season. This choral masterpiece is full of soaring arias, memorable choruses, and one of the most enduring messages of hope. Conducted by Music Director Guillermo Figueroa and featuring the full Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with choral direction by Carmen Flórez-Mansi, this year’s cast of soloists included four exceptional graduates of the Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Singers Program. Pre-concert talk one hour before performance. The runtime for this version of Messiah is 2.5 hours with one intermission.

The Santa Fe Symphony: Sounds of the Season

The Santa Fe Symphony: Romance & Rhapsody

Music Director Guillermo Figueroa conducts Romance & Rhapsody, featuring Cliburn Gold Medalist and GRAMMY®-nominated pianist Olga Kern performing Rachmaninoff’s beloved Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Haydn’s Harpsichord Concerto in D Major. With a vivid onstage presence, dazzling technique, and keen musicianship, Kern is widely recognized as one of the great artists of her generation. Dmitri Shostakovich’s groundbreaking first symphony completes the program. Lighter in tone than his later works, it includes flashes of the music he performed while working as a pianist in vaudeville shows and silent movie houses, and features solos for nearly every section of the orchestra.

The Santa Fe Symphony: Symphonic Dances

Your toes will be tapping when The Santa Fe Symphony presents Symphonic Dances from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, just one of the works featured on this high-spirited afternoon of symphonic music. The concert features a side-by-side performance with members of The Santa Fe Symphony Youth Orchestra performing Moncayo’s Huapango. Gabriela Lena Frank’s Three Latin American Dances and Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 round out the program. Barber’s rich music provides the background to words by James Agee, sung by soprano Ann Toomey, that will transport the audience to Agee’s memories of the

The Santa Fe Symphony: Beethoven & Strauss

Music Director Guillermo Figueroa conducts The Santa Fe Symphony in two glorious works from the 19th century. The concert opens with Beethoven’s 1st Symphony, featuring elegant strings and rich winds. Richard Strauss’ Don Quixote: Fantastic Variations on a Theme of Knightly Character, performed by GRAMMY® award-winning cellist David Finckel, concludes the program. The piece was inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ ageless novel. Strauss gave the cello the role of the knight, Don Quixote de la Mancha, providing musical lines that evoke nobility and a rueful grace as the knight travels through the battles and challenges that enrich his fantasy life.

The Santa Fe Symphony: Carmina Burana

With its shimmering orchestration and primal rhythms, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is a mainstay in the contemporary canon of music for choir and orchestra. Its lyrics are based on Medieval poems, addressing issues as familiar to us today as they were when they were first written—wealth, vices, love, and the nature of life. The Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus joins forces with soprano Amy Owens, tenor Spencer Hamlin, and bass-baritone Ed Parks to make this season finale a tour de force. This outstanding program opens with Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel’s Overture in C Major, followed by Associate Concertmaster Ruxandra Marquardt performing Mozart’s 5th Violin Concerto.
