For “A Night in MANH(A)TTAN,” professional film crews will create a Hollywood experience in the Pajarito Room to the 1940’s when it first served as the social gathering place for the scientists and their families during the Manhattan Project.  A film “set,“ complete with green screen, lights and camera, offers each ticket holder a unique photo opportunity to see themselves in a scene from the WGN America T.V. series Manhattan.

For the photo op, all guests are asked to wear clothing similar to what the characters in the series wear – khakis or dress pants, dress shoes, and a long sleeved white shirt and tie for men; for women, simple long dresses or skirts and blouses with flats or heels. Professional hair and make-up artists from the show will be on hand to finish the look. Then, guests will be photographed, individually or in groups, against a green screen and digitally incorporated into still photos from the television show. Time and resources allowing, additional photos/poses may be purchased at just $10 each.

Throughout the evening, Fuller Lodge’s Pajarito Room will be filled with 40’s music, dancing, dessert and beverages. A separate cash bar in the lobby will serve Manhattan cocktails and other beverages.

As a highlight to the event, Los Alamos native and accomplished composer, Matt Hanson, will perform an original arrangement of Chopin. Hanson was recently asked by IATSE Local 480 to re-score the music for the 1954 classic movie, “Salt of the Earth.” Hanson will be accompanied by Juanita Madland, playing piano.

The musical intermission also will include a sneak peak performance by Dance Arts Los Alamos of “The Nutcracker on the Hill” – a ballet whose story line brings new life to the classic Christmas tale of The Nutcracker, entwined with the true characters involved in the Manhattan Project.

The goals of A Night in MANH(A)TTAN are to promote the WGN America series MANH(A)TTAN series, celebrate the Manhattan Project National Historical Park, promote the New Mexico film industry and provide a community celebration.

The “A Night in MANH(A)TTAN” event was made possible in cooperation with Los Alamos Film Office*, Los Alamos Creative District** and Pajarito Film Club***, who welcome event sponsor IATSE Local 480 and its union members who support film productions including the WGN America series, “Manhattan.”  The money collected through ticket sales and the live auction goes to sponsor IATSE Local 480 Community Outreach program.
