I applaud the decision of our local political party leaders not to play politics with the Homecoming Parade … in a politically polarized society (nationally) I find this rather refreshingly amazing. Thank you.
What I want to see at Homecoming is LAPS students celebrating being LAPS students. I want to see student floats with the very politically correct phrase “Go Toppers.” I don’t want to see “Vote for.” I want to see LAHS and LAMS marching bands — I would prefer to see them in full regalia, not t-shirts. It would be cool to see an entry from the robotics kids. I want baton twirlers and cheerleaders. I’d like to see auto restorations done by the LAHS auto shop. I’d really like to see as much representation of the education and talent our students have — something from the Math Club, or the French Club, or any and all of the other clubs. And it wouldn’t be remiss to have alumni represented as well “the class of (year) still supports the Hilltoppers” — something to that effect.
Let’s see — election day is traditionally on a Tuesday. Okay, the weekend before the politicians can have their own parade — with “vote for” floats and freebies and all that.
So “Go toppers go, for the green and for the gold. Let your battle cry be bold” and let the politicians be silent.
