As a mother and a teacher, I find the recent tactics employed by Reform New Mexico Now unacceptable, no matter how grave the stakes are in our race for State House.
Many of you have received the recent mailers claiming I would support the largest tax increase in New Mexico history, yet none of the attacks cite actual facts.
That is because it couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is that since 2010, I have stood up for taxation reform that would make it easier for working families to survive.
To use my words out of context and mislead the very voters I am working to represent is insulting. You deserve the truth. You deserve an election season that is fair.
We deserve better representation than what you have now. And the truth is that I would never pass a tax increase onto the very families I am running to protect.
I will not increase families’ taxes. I will not bring back taxes on our groceries. In fact, every time I have been asked about taxation my response has always been, “We all benefit when everyone pays their fair share and when our tax burden is not disproportionally carried by New Mexico working families.
Let’s examine the more than $1 billion in tax exemptions given annually to special interests (Albuquerque Journal Candidate Questionnaire, Oct. 14, 2012.)
I can no longer sit by and allow my name and my beliefs to be slandered by third party groups who care more about their bottom line than about the families of House District 43.
I welcome anyone who still has concerns to call me anytime at 505-500-4343 or email me at StephanieGarciaRichard@gmail.com.
I will not stop fighting until we have the representation we deserve.
