I have lived in Los Alamos for more than 50 years. I have been actively engaged in community activities during that time. Nine years as Chairman of the Republican Party of Los Alamos, eight years as County Assessor, seven years on the Parks and Recreation Board and two terms on the LARSO Board of Directors, as well as many youth activities when my children were growing up.
I have seen many sheriffs come and go. Most were content to serve in the capacity assigned to our sheriff. A few have wanted to expand the duties of the sheriff. The right for Los Alamos to decide whether to have both a sheriff and police department or only one has been tested in the courts.
Los Alamos does not need both a sheriff and police department. We have a capable, highly trained police department well able to absorb the duties of the sheriff.
Now the question is being put before the voters to decide. This will put the question to rest once and for all.
I urge you to join me in voting “For” on Question 1 on the November ballot.
