I am writing to enthusiastically support Dr. Bryan Fearey’s candidacy for the UNM-Los Alamos Advisory Board. I have known Bryan for more than 20 years in various capacities and can attest to his strong qualifications for this important position.
Beyond his impressive academic and professional accomplishments, Bryan brings exceptional leadership skills and meaningful experience that align perfectly with the mission of UNM-LA.
Board and Community Experience:
Bryan served on the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund Advisory Board, an organization that provides scholarships to students across the seven-county region of Northern New Mexico. While serving on this board, Bryan co-created the Career Pathways Scholarship Fund to support students pursuing two-year associate degrees or trade certifications—further demonstrating his commitment to strengthening workforce development and educational opportunity in our region. He has witnessed firsthand the challenges and resilience of diverse students and has been a steadfast advocate for their success. He and his wife also created the Fearey/Connelly Endowed Scholarship Fund with the LANL Foundation to ensure sustained support for students for generations to come.
Commitment to Education and UNM-LA’s Mission:
Bryan has a deep understanding of UNM-LA’s core mission—to prepare students for transfer to the main campus or other institutions of higher learning, and to provide opportunities for students to earn valuable degrees and certifications right here at home. He views post-secondary education as a pathway to meaningful careers for both traditional and non-traditional lifelong learners, and he has personally contributed significant resources to help others achieve this goal.
Bryan recognizes UNM-LA as a true “gemstone” in our community—an institution that connects education, workforce, and lifelong learning through dual credit programs, career certifications, and accessible degree pathways. He also understands that good governance, broad community representation, and responsiveness to regional needs are essential to UNM-LA’s continued success.
For as long as I’ve known him, Bryan has been a consistent champion for education and opportunity for all students. He listens carefully to all viewpoints, seeks relevant information, and makes well-informed, principled decisions. His temperament is collaborative, and he is never afraid to lead when leadership is needed.
Bryan Fearey is exceptionally well-qualified to serve on the UNM-LA Advisory Board. I strongly urge voters to support his candidacy this November.
