Letter To The Editor: Enough’s Enough

Los Alamos

Just because Los Alamos is the “richest city” in the country not everyone in Los Alamos makes $100,000 + a year. As a property owner here in Los Alamos, I’m getting real tired of being forced to pay for things I don’t, and will never, use!

I don’t have kids yet I’m expected to pay for the upkeep of the Schools. I don’t swim yet I’m expected to pay for a “Leisure Pool”. I don’t skate yet I’m expected to pay for the renovations to the Skating Rink. The list goes on and on and on and on. And, I will certainly never have a use for the “Rec. Center”.

I’m obviously not alone in this judging from the over 1,600 that voted against the School Mill Levy. Rather than forcing property owners to pay for all these Capital Improvement Projects while others get away “Scott Free”, I say these projects be paid by those who will use them.

Charge admission fees high enough to cover the cost of building these unneeded and unnecessary boondoggles. Or better yet raise the Gross Receipts Tax so that EVERYONE has to pay for them not just the property owners.

I have lived in Los Alamos all my life and I love it here! I shouldn’t be forced to move because I can’t afford being a property owner.
