Letter To The Editor: Endorsing Bryan Fearey For UNM-LA Advisory Board

I am writing to offer my wholehearted and enthusiastic endorsement of Dr. Bryan Fearey for a position on the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos Advisory Board. I have had the privilege of knowing Bryan and his family for over 25 years, both personally, and professionally, and during that time, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable character, dedication, and wisdom he brings to every endeavor.

From laying with his daughter Colleen in elementary school, to learning clarinet under the guidance of his other daughter Brenna in high school, to listening to Bryan play saxophone with his band around town and meeting with him weekly at Ruby K’s for 1-on-1’s to discuss my career, current geopolitical events, and various topics pertaining to science and technology, I feel I have truly gotten and generosity as a mentee; I know the students who walk through the doors of UNM-LA will experience the same. What truly sets Bryan apart is not only his expertise in science and critical thinking—though his background is indeed impressive—but his innate ability to listen, mentor, comfort, and inspire those around him. Bryan approaches every topic with intellectual curiosity and humility, fostering dialogue that encourage growth and understanding.

Bryan is deeply committed to the prosperity of Los Alamos and the educational mission of UNM-LA. He understands the unique role the university plays in Los Alamos and in the lives of students, families, and local businesses, and he has consistently demonstrated a willingness to invest his time, energy, and resources to advance those causes. Bryan is the kind of leader who lifts others up, always seeking constructive solutions and welcoming input from everyone. His experience as a scientist both in the United States and abroad, combined with his passion for education and community service, gives him a rare and valuable perspective—one that would benefit the Advisory Board and the university as a whole.

I am confident that, if selected, Bryan will approach his role in the UNM-LA Advisory Board with the same thoughtfulness, dedication, and excellence that have defined his life and career. For these reasons and many more, I urge you to support Dr. Bryan Fearey’s candidacy for the UNM-LA Advisory Board. His vision, experience, and compassion make him an outstanding choice.

Thank you for considering Bryan for this position.
