We are writing in support of Chris Chandler for County Council. The two of us have known and worked with Chris for many years, and we admire her dedication to the community and her willingness to work hard to improve its future. She has devoted countless hours to past service on the County Council, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the two Charter Review Committees, one in the 1990s and the other in the past 10 years. She served as our Probate Judge, only recently stepping down from that position to run for County Council.
Chris worked at the Laboratory for many years as legal counsel. She has sharp legal skills, she listens to all sides, and she is a good communicator. The Los Alamos County Charter is our county’s guiding legal document, much like the Constitution is for the country. Because of Chris’s experience on the County Council, and as chairwoman of the Council, she understood how the Charter was used in practice. She was able to apply that knowledge when she served on the two different Charter Review Committees. Her contributions to reports were concise, clearly written, and well thought-out.
Chris has dealt with many issues that have been of great public interest: whether it was the downtown plan, the comprehensive plan, or a process for initiatives and referenda she understood the issues and their ramifications. She made sure that the public was heard and their interests were reflected in the final documents.
We have known and worked with Chris long enough to know: she is smart, capable, honest, and has good sense. She listens. She will serve us well if she is elected to the County Council. We sincerely hope you will join us in voting for her.
