By VALERIE WOOD, Vice PresidentBefore voting on Thursday, Aug. 10, current members of Los Alamos Ski Club should take the time to read the memo sent to them by Ski Club President Susan Brockway-Hahn. This information has been compiled and analyzed extensively by multiple members of the LASC Boards of Directors over the last three years.
PRLP has demonstrated again and again its willingness to collaborate with the LASC volunteers. Without PRLP’s support since 2014, our ‘crown jewel’ would have been reduced to a collection of rusting, inoperative machinery, no skiing, and no available income to pay employees. As of right now, we have a solid economic future, snow-making, wider exposure to the
public outside of Los Alamos, a expanding offering of mountain bike trails, expanded use of the area as a filming site for movies made in New Mexico, and a popular beer, band and bike event schedule.
With this contract in place, we will retain the support of Los Alamos County to expand snowmaking and protect the mountain from future forest fires.
As a current member of the LASC Board of Directors and a skier and member of LASC since 1972, I sympathize with Mr. Altherr’s concerns (link). I also believe, after careful consideration, that the current proposal by PRLP is made in good faith, and is our best opportunity to preserve and enjoy Pajarito Mountain.
