I would like to alert my downtown residential neighbors to the plan being heard at the Council meeting Tuesday, March 25 regarding rehabilitation of the apartments on 9th St. and 1211 11th St. (fronting on Myrtle by the pickleball court).

The Council heard an outline of the plan March 11 and the documentation is available on the County Council Calendar here.

As I write this the agenda documentation is not available for next Tuesday.

From the information available I am in favor of this plan. On its face it looks like the ideal solution to the problem of preserving existing affordable housing while upgrading and rehabilitating the property. This is a far cry from the plan our neighborhood was able to squash some years ago that would have demolished the existing structures and replaced them with a much higher density, three story apartment monstrosity straight out of the Denver suburbs.

Most important perhaps is that the plan gets a county grant and provides deed restrictions and other provisions that assure continued affordability for current residents. I encourage you to check out the link above. If you want to discuss it I’m available, 505.280.3110.
