Letter To The Editor: A Hardworking Judge Who Learns Quickly

By ANTHONY I. ARMIJO MBA, CPA, CGMA, CGFM

District Court Judge Gregory S. Shaffer and I worked together at the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). I was the State Controller and Financial Control Division Director; he was an attorney.

As a financial oversight entity, accounting is ingrained in DFA’s work and the statutes it administers. Greg quickly mastered the accounting concepts necessary to provide the highest level of legal service to the Department. When he came to discuss an issue with me, he already had a good grasp of the underlying accounting, having studied the relevant material beforehand. That enabled him to ask insightful questions and critically examine my opinions.

Given their varied caseload, we need civil judges who can quickly master new subjects and will work hard to do so. I know that Greg can and will. That is why I am voting for him in the Democratic Primary for First Judicial District Court, Div. 2.
