Letter Carrier & Boy Scouts Food Drive Nov. 23

The 18th annual Fall Food Drive is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 in Los Alamos and White Rock.
This community food drive is jointly conducted by the Los Alamos Letter Carriers Union (NALC-4112), the Northern New Mexico District of the Boy Scouts of America, and LA CARES with the support of the National Letter Carriers Union, the US Postal Service, the Knights of Columbus, Smith’s Food & Drug Stores, RE/MAX and many individual volunteers.
The drive supports those in need in Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties through regular distributions by LA CARES and the San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen in Espanola.
Residents should place non-perishable donations of food and supplies near their mailboxes by 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 for pick-up by Letter Carriers, Scouts, and volunteers. Cub Scouts also will collect donations at Smith’s Food and Drug Centers in Los Alamos and White Rock 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

Some suggested items for donation include:

100 percent juices in ½ gal plastic; Canned fruits and vegetables; Boxed dehydrated potatoes; Low-fat/salt canned meats (tuna, chicken, salmon); Low-sugar cereals; Spaghetti sauce; Spaghetti noodles and other pasta; Macaroni and cheese; Tuna and Chicken Helpers; Hearty style soups; Canned meals like Spaghettios/Chef Boy R Dee; Tomato products; Sugar; Flour; Cooking oil; Jelly/jams; Peanut butter; Canned beans and dried pinto beans; Rice; Powdered milk; Caffeinated coffee (ground & instant) and teas; Salad dressings; Mayonnaise; Crackers and cookies; Healthy school lunch items such as small 100 percent juices; granola bars; snack crackers; fruit cups; nuts; Paper towels; Toilet paper; Laundry detergent; Baby wipes; and Personal care products (especially bath soap; and also shampoo; deodorant; razors; shaving cream; tooth brushes and toothpaste.) No diapers or baby products are needed at this time. NO glass containers and NO perishable food please.
