2026 PRIMARY ELECTION NOTICE
Pursuant to the election code Section 1-11-2, NMSA 1978, I, Michael Redondo, County Clerk of Los Alamos County, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby issue the following election notice:
That a Primary Election is called to be held in each precinct in Los Alamos County on June 2, 2026; and
That the Primary Election shall be for the purpose of permitting the Democratic Party and the Republican Party to nominate candidates for the following offices:

ABSENTEE VOTING BY MAIL
Los Alamos County Municipal Building, 1000 Central Avenue, County Clerk’s Office, 2nd floor, Suite 240. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The last day the County Clerk can mail a ballot is Wednesday, May 20, 2026. All absentee ballots must be physically accepted in the County Clerk’s Office no later than 7:00 p.m., Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
An Absentee Application is required to request an Absentee by Mail ballot. Applications can be obtained through the following methods: In-person at the Clerk’s Office, requested to be mailed to the voter, downloaded from the County Clerk webpage: www.losalamosnm.us/clerk or voters may apply on-line at www.NMVote.org.

VOTER REGISTRATION
Pursuant to NMSA 1978, § 1-4-8(A), to participate in an election, the deadline to register to vote or update an existing voter registration is twenty-eight days prior to that election (Tuesday, May 5, 2026). However, pursuant to NMSA 1978, § 1-4-5.7(B), during a statewide election, a qualified elector may register to vote or update an existing certificate of registration in person immediately prior to voting in the election at any polling location during the regular hours and days of business beginning on the twenty-eighth day before the election, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, through Friday, May 15, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 16, 2026, through Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Closed Sundays and Memorial Day, May 25, 2026). Pursuant to New Mexico’s Semi-Open Primary Election law, voters registered with a major political party must vote the ballot of their registered party. Voters registered with a minor political party may update their voter registration through Same Day Registration (SDR) to either Democratic, Republican, or Declined to State (DTS). Voters registered as Declined to State (DTS) or No Major or Minor Party Affiliation may select either a Democratic or Republican ballot at the time of voting without changing their voter registration.

VOTACIÓN EN AUSENCIA POR CORREO
Edificio Municipal del Condado de Los Álamos, 1000 Central Avenue, Oficina del Secretario del Condado, 2.º piso, Suite 240. El último día para solicitar una boleta de voto ausente por correo es el jueves, 19 de mayo de 2026. El último día en que el Secretario del Condado puede enviar una boleta por correo es el miércoles, 20 de mayo de 2026. Todas las boletas de voto ausente deben ser recibidas físicamente en la Oficina del Secretario del Condado a más tardar a las 7:00 p.m. del Día de la Elección, martes, 2 de junio de 2026.
Se requiere una Solicitud de Boleta de Voto Ausente para solicitar una boleta de voto ausente por correo. Las solicitudes pueden obtenerse de las siguientes maneras: en persona en la Oficina del Secretario del Condado, solicitando que se envíen por correo al votante, descargándolas desde la página web del Secretario del Condado: Los Alamos County Clerk o los votantes pueden solicitarla en línea en NMVote.org

REGISTRO DE VOTANTES
De conformidad con NMSA 1978, § 1-4-8(A), para participar en una elección, la fecha límite para registrarse para votar o actualizar un registro de votante existente es veintiocho días antes de la elección (martes, 5 de mayo de 2026). Sin embargo, de conformidad con NMSA 1978, § 1-4-5.7(B), durante una elección estatal, un elector calificado puede registrarse para votar o actualizar un certificado de registro existente en persona inmediatamente antes de votar en la elección en cualquier centro de votación durante los horarios y días hábiles regulares comenzando el vigésimo octavo día antes de la elección, martes, 5 de mayo de 2026, hasta el viernes, 15 de mayo de 2026, de 8:00 a.m. a 5:00 p.m., y desde el sábado, 16 de mayo de 2026, hasta el sábado, 30 de mayo de 2026, de 8:00 a.m. a 6:00 p.m. (Cerrado los domingos y el Día de los Caídos, 25 de mayo de 2026).
De conformidad con la ley de Primaria Semi-Abierta de Nuevo México, los votantes registrados con un partido político mayoritario deben votar la boleta de su partido registrado. Los votantes registrados con un partido político minoritario pueden actualizar su registro de votante mediante el Registro el Mismo Día (Same Day Registration – SDR) a Demócrata, Republicano o Declinado a Declarar (Declined to State – DTS). Los votantes registrados como Declinado a Declarar (DTS) o sin afiliación a un partido político mayoritario o minoritario pueden seleccionar una boleta Demócrata o Republicana al momento de votar sin cambiar su registro de votante
