NMHM News:

This month’s “Friends of History First Wednesday Lecture Series” features a talk, noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, about Museum of New Mexico founder Edgar Lee Hewett presented by Heather McClure, New Mexico History Museum (NMHM) Librarian and Archivist.

Hewett was an inescapable presence in early 20th century Southwestern cultural life. From archaeology and anthropology, to education, museums, art and architecture, he played a major role in crafting the Southwest’s unique image and its place in US history. NMHM’s Fray Angelico Chavez History Library has recently completed a multi-year project to digitize tens of thousands of Hewett’s papers and photographs, making them more readily available to scholars and to the public.
