LWV News:
The League of Women Voters of Los Alamos’ (LWV) community event, Lunch with a Leader, will be noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 19, in the Unitarian Fellowship Hall on Sage Loop.
The featured speaker is Rep. Christine Chandler. Rep. Chandler will be discussing the much-debated topic of what the County Council can and cannot do.
This event is open to the public and attendees are asked to arrive by 11:45 a.m., as the presentation begins promptly at noon.
Although she is now best known for being the local representative to the New Mexico House of Representatives since being elected in 2018, Rep. Chandler still lives in Los Alamos and has a long history of dedication to public service. She served as Probate Judge for Los Alamos County and for two terms on the Los Alamos County Council, including as its Chair and Vice Chair. She is an attorney, retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Office of General Counsel. She is married to George Chandler, also an attorney and retired physicist from Los Alamos National Laboratory, and is serving at Los Alamos County Assessor.
As a representative for District 43, Rep. Chandler serves as Chair of the influential House Judiciary Committee and as a member of the House Taxation & Revenue Committee. During the interim, she chairs the Courts, Correction & Justice Committee and is a member of the Revenue Stabilization & Tax Policy Committee. During the 2026 Legislative Session, Rep. Chandler’s House Bill 99 to reform medical malpractice in New Mexico passed and was signed into law by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
