LLA News:

The Leadership Los Alamos (LLA) Class of 2023 met Jan. 6 for an Education Session at UNM-Los Alamos. The class explored current issues related to education in Los Alamos but also regional, state and national issues.

Speakers included Gwen Perea Warmiment, director of the New Mexico Legislative Education Study Committee discussing the various educational opportunities in New Mexico;

Steve Laurent, executive director Los Alamos Community Foundation, and Jenny Parks, president and CEO of the LANL Foundation held a panel discussion about the local foundations supporting education;

Caron Inglis, LAPS School psychologist and Kathryn Vigil, director of Student Services at UNM-LA, with their colleagues addressed mental health and social emotional needs in the schools;

Audrey Marroquin, UNM-LA Education Partnerships and Academic Support planning officer and Naly Ramirez-Aponte, UNM-LA Adult Learning Center program manager, shared about the Non-Credit Adult Education and Workforce programs at UNM-LA;

Rebecca Estrada. LANL Community Partnerships Office, discussed meeting workforce needs with Academic Certificate and Associate of Applied Science programs; and

LAHS Principal Carter Payne shared about the great opportunities at Los Alamos High School (LAHS) beyond the core curriculum. He was accompanied by eight LAHS students who shared about their extra-curricular involvement in ROTC, welding, robotics, sports medicine and the art program.
