Alumni Jorge Maldonado
How many years have you lived and/or worked in Los Alamos?
Six wonderful years of friendships and blue skies.
Why did you enroll in LLA?
I was new in town and thought it would help me get to know the people and issues. It worked perfectly. Every class was a great opportunity to make personal contacts with local leaders. All the presenters seemed really happy to share their knowledge of their community, to include class participants in the discussions and listen to our problem-solving suggestions.
What was your biggest “take away” from the class?
The networking. I made many friends and keep those treasured friendships still today.
What are you doing with what you learned?
So much. First, I joined the Historic District Advisory Board because of a Leadership class, then became a Boy Scout leader and eventually Scoutmaster of Troop 129 in White Rock, and lastly, I was a Leadership Los Alamos Board Member for 3 fun filled years. During those three years, my teenage son became an un-official board member helping setup before and clean after most classes held in town and in Bandelier. He, just like me, had a blast.
Leadership Los Alamos is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), tax exempt organization founded in 2003 to identify current and emerging leaders in the Los Alamos community, enhance their leadership skills, and deepen their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing this area.
In the Leadership Los Alamos program, participants learn as much about themselves as they do about leadership, teamwork and the community. To learn more visit About LLA and LLA Application or call Martha Katko at 505.412.639.
