Los Alamos Public Schools Acting Superintendent Jennifer Guy announced leadership changes at the high school and district level in a newsletter emailed to parents Dec. 20.
Guy assumed the district’s leadership role after Superintendent Jose Delfin went on administrative leave Dec. 11. The duration of Delfin’s leave is presently unknown.
Guy announced that beginning in January Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Principal Carter Payne will become Acting Assistant Superintendent, LAHS Assistant Principal Renee Dunwoody will become Acting Principal and Dean of Students Suzanne Montoya will take over as Acting Assistant Principal. Mike Johnson will remain as Topper Freshman Academy Principal.
In the newsletter these promotions were listed as permanent but that was an oversight, Guy explained, noting that initially each of these positions will be in the acting capacity.
“I have loved working with students and staff at the high school for the past 12 years and I’m excited to now be able to broaden my scope and support students, staff and parents districtwide,” Payne told the Los Alamos Daily Post today.
In a phone call with the Daily Post, Guy praised Payne, Dunwoody and Montoya and thanked them for stepping up to fill the positions.
“I’m confident in our team, and I am sure they will continue to provide excellent leadership for Los Alamos High School and the District,” Guy said.
