LAVA News:
In order to ensure that the community can safely show support for victims, the Los Alamos Police Department’s Victim Assistant (LAVA) National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) Community Support Walk will be a virtual event.
There will not be an in-person event.
At the Turquoise Level, an event can be held with a mass gathering limit of 150 persons, or 200 vehicles. The safest way to ensure that these limits are not exceeded is to provide t-shirts to individuals and individual families at a scheduled time and host a virtual event, rather than in-person.
Pickup of NCVRW t-shirts, masks, and other promotional items, including name entry for the bikes donated by Smith’s can be scheduled 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday, April 22-23.
Contact Teresina Berg at (505).662.8372 to schedule. The drawing will occur 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24. The winners will be contacted and can pick up prizes starting Monday, April 26.
The community support event is designed to bring awareness to victim rights and resources. Community members are asked to wear the NCVRW shirt this week and tag themselves on social media #LAVAwalk87544.
During their scheduled pickup time, shirts will only be provided to the individuals present, and a volunteer will take a picture of individuals in their t-shirts. The community also is invited to view resource information on the National Crime Victims Rights Week tab of the Los Alamos Police Department website.
Through funding from the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA) Community Awareness Projects (CAP) Grant award, community members and partners will receive NCVRW themed t-shirts (300 available for this event) and other NCVRW themed items.
All NCVRW events in Los Alamos will be virtual. Events also are being held this week throughout the country to promote community-wide public awareness of the rights and available services for victims of all types of crimes during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 18-24. The 2021 NCVRW theme is “Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities”.
