Lasses and Lads of Enchantment
The Lasses and Lads of Enchantment and the Santa Fe Harmonizers will “Say It in a Song” in their 2025 show next month. The events will be held Oct. 17 and 18 in Santa Fe and Los Alamos. The theme for this year includes songs from both movies and Broadway. The toe-tapping melodies are sure to give audience members a morale boost and, as a cautionary word, may have you singing all the way home.
The plans have changed this year, with a Friday evening performance in Santa Fe and a Saturday matinee in Los Alamos. The matinee may offer those unable to travel during the evenings a chance to fill their hearts with music. A small price increase is a result of buying recent music and licensing for both choral companies. The shows offer a discount for students: those 13 and up are just $5, and kids under 13 are always free.
The 7th Street Quartet makes its debut after winning the 2024 Southwestern District Mixed Harmony Quartet Championship title. This summer, they had the opportunity to represent the District at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Quartet Contest in Denver. Next month, they’ll travel 763 miles to enchant listeners with their golden, melodious tones.
The quartet aspires to represent the values of Everyone in Harmony—bringing people together to make beautiful music and inspire audiences. The foursome includes Heather Cryer–Tenor, Drew Prince–Lead, Aaron Turner–Baritone, and Travis Gidley–Bass. One of their most iconic songs is from Disney’s 101 Dalmatians. Cruella DeVille is sure to make an appearance, as Halloween is right around the corner.
The Southwestern District, Mixed Harmony Quartet Champion title began in 2022. However, the District has scored mixed quartets since 2015. The team is honored to share the title of Champion with all the mixed harmony quartets that came before them, including those that were not officially granted the title at the time.
The members are part of Space City Sound, a non-profit, award-winning a cappella ensemble based in Houston. They also belong to a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, just like our local lasses and lads. If you need to hear a sample of what is to come, visit their website at www.7thstreetquartet.com.
This will be a first-time visit to the Land of Enchantment for three of the four songsters (if you don’t count just driving through the state). Drew had been to Los Alamos once before to visit the Manhattan Project National Historic Park. His grandfather was a Colonel in the US Army during the Cold War. As a kid, he was captivated by his grandfather’s stories. He said visiting Los Alamos was like stepping back into the history he lived through.
The Friday, Oct. 17 performance begins at 7 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church at 1200 Pecos Trail in Santa Fe. A brief intermission will take place at the midway point of the show. Light snacks and drinks will be provided at no cost after the show, at an event called the Afterglow. The Afterglow will feature additional songs from featured quartets.
The Saturday, Los Alamos show begins at 2 p.m. at the United Church at 2525 Canyon Road, and includes an intermission with snacks and drinks at no cost. Ticket information is available at 505.660.0484.
