From Las Cumbres Community Services Center:
Las Cumbres Community Services Center (LCCS) in Los Alamos is a great resource and Community partner for the families of Los Alamos. Once monthly LCCS hosts a community parent group get together where parents and children can come and participate in fun and educational activities.
Parents with children are invited to Child Development Drop-in Playtime with Las Cumbres Specialists, 9-11 a.m. Monday, July 1 at 1060 Nugget St.
On June 24 LCCS hosted a Play-Doh extravaganza in which parents and their young children learned to make homemade Play-Doh. In addition, parents were given educational information on hand development and preparing young children for school success. It was a very engaging parent group activity and there will be another activity next month.
Los Alamos families with young children who have any developmental concerns or the need for resources in supporting the development of their children and readying toddler skills for school entry are encouraged to contact LCCS or attend one of the monthly parent group activities.
About Las Cumbres Community Services:
Las Cumbres Community Services, Inc. began in 1970 with a structured program of day habilitation services for developmentally disabled adults residing in Los Alamos. We incorporated in 1971 and expanded services to the Española Valley in 1978 for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 1980, Las Cumbres became the first private rehabilitation program in New Mexico to earn a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
The agency added a preschool for children in the Española Valley in 1979 which expanded to serve infants and toddlers in 1982. In that same year, Las Cumbres inaugurated residential supported living services at the Peach House through a cooperative agreement with the Los Alamos group home.
Services for children, adults, and families have continued to expand since then in order to best meet the growing and changing needs of Northern New Mexico. Our main facilities are in Española, with additional sites in Los Alamos, Chama, Taos, and Santa Fe. Today, the agency is one of the largest social service providers in Northern New Mexico.
Direct services are offered in Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe and Taos Counties, as well as along the Borderland region. Education, outreach, and referral activities make a strong impact throughout the state.
LCCS activities reach almost 7,000 individuals each year in two major areas of emphasis:
