Starting Thursday, your local senior centers will count down the days for you to help them make a difference.
The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO), would like to spotlight, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, as we head toward “Make A Difference Day” Saturday, Oct. 24.
The day, originally held in 1992 by USA Weekend, was established to help encourage us to take one day a year to try to make a difference in the world. The goal is for everyone to come together and help the people who need it the most.
This could be anyone from your neighbor to the less fortunate, and this year they would like your help to assist senior citizens prepare for the challenges of winter during this global pandemic.
The senior centers are required to assist their membership to be ready in the event that weather causes challenges for our older population. We hope to make care packages and send them out to members to acknowledge the day and show how the great difference the light work of many can make.
The centers have created a list of items that can be dropped off anytime throughout the course of the next month. The items can be found on the center’s website and Facebook pages in the coming days or requested by emailing Director@losalamosseniorcenter.com.
Needed items such as healthy cereals, juices, oatmeal and regular and low sodium soups may be dropped off at either the Los Alamos or White Rock senior center and also accepted noon to 1 p.m. daily during the drive-thru lunches at the centers.
