By LAPS Superintendent Dr. Kurt Steinhaus:
This is a quick note to wish everyone a wonderful and safe winter break — a well-deserved vacation for all! If you need assistance from the Central Office or Facilities during the break, we will be open with limited staff every day except Dec. 24 and 25, 2015 and Jan 1, 2016.
For many, the meaning of winter break is very simple – it’s a time to join with family and friends and give thanks for all that we enjoy together. We are fortunate to have students who are motivated and enthusiastic as well as teachers and staff who are experts in their profession and who have a well-earned reputation of caring, reaching out, and achieving at high levels.
Reflecting on the first semester, I am reminded of my own good fortune to serve as Superintendent of the Los Alamos Public Schools. Indeed, my lifelong career in education has afforded vast, varied, and richly rewarding opportunities to learn from a diverse group of people. Being part of the LAPS team is the pinnacle.
About safety, we just received the attached message from the Public Education Department. Referenced in the memo is our very own LAHS graudate, Lisa Hecker, who serves as the PED Safe Schools Program Director. For Los Alamos schools, Jeff Sargent is now the District Safety Officer.
