LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools Transportation Department is looking forward to the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

All routes have a permanent driver ready to safely take students to and from school.

The mechanics have worked diligently throughout the summer inspecting the buses to ensure the safety of the students and community.

The community of Los Alamos also can help to ensure the safety of students by stopping their vehicle when the school bus lights are flashing red and the stop sign is extended. Remember, it’s illegal to pass a school bus when the lights are flashing red and the stop arm is extended.

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) funded the replacement of one route bus last year. This bus is equipped with the newest emission technology to ensure clean diesel exhaust and a quiet engine.

During the 2016-2017 school year, PED will have two ridership count days for fiscal year 2017-2018. The first rider count day is Dec. 1, 2016. The second count day is Feb. 8, 2017.

Please help support LAPS by sending your eligible student on the bus on those days to ensure the Transportation Department is fully funded.

Information on the bus routes will be available on the Los Alamos Public Schools website in early August under the transportation tab.
