LAPS To Host Informational Meeting For Potential School Board Candidates Monday Aug. 14

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will host an informational meeting for potential School Board candidates starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 in the School Boardroom.

Los Alamos County Clerk Naomi Maestas will open the meeting by providing information about the candidate filing process and campaign requirements. Former and current school board members will then host a question-and-answer session for potential candidates to learn more about school board roles and responsibilities.

Three seats for the LAPS Board will be on the ballot this November.

These three open seats are currently held by:

  • Christine Bernstein (District 3, Aspen Elementary);
  • Melanie Colgan (District 4, Barranca Mesa Elementary and Los Alamos Middle School); and
  • Sondra Wyman (District 5, Mountain Elementary and Los Alamos High School).

Bernstein and Colgan are completing four-year terms. Wyman was appointed to complete the term vacated by former School Board member Erin Green.

All positions are four-year terms.

The School Board selected a new redistricting map last November, which included an elementary school in each district. The LAPS districts may be viewed here.

Candidate Filing Day is Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Municipal Building. For more information about Filing Day, visit www.losalamosnm.us/clerk or contact the County Clerk’s office at 505.662.8010.

Early voting begins Oct. 10 and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7.
