LAPS News:
Los Alamos Public Schools invites the public to attend a community meeting to discuss the proposed attendance zone changes in White Rock 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 at Piñon Elementary School.
The proposed zone changes will help balance the school population sizes at Chamisa Elementary and Piñon Elementary, both of which are undergoing construction of new school buildings. The new schools will accommodate 375 students after construction is complete. Piñon Elementary is scheduled to be completed in February 2025; Chamisa Elementary is scheduled for completion in August of 2025.
“We believe that it is important to rezone attendance zones in White Rock to make sure that we can better accommodate both current and future students,” Superintendent Jennifer Guy said.
Students who currently attend Piñon Elementary will be allowed to continue if they wish to stay. Newly enrolling students will enroll in the new school zones at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
