From Los Alamos Public Schools:

Los Alamos voters: thank you for voting to pass the $20 million general obligation bond (GOB) for Los Alamos Public Schools!

Money raised by the GOB will primarily be used to refurbish and improve Chamisa and Piñon elementary schools.

“Improving our facilities is an important part of providing students with a quality education,” LAPS School Board President Ellen Ben-Naim said.

Over the past 10 years, Los Alamos Public Schools has, with the help of Los Alamos voters, used bond funds for improvements to school buildings throughout the district.

Both Chamisa and Piñon elementary schools are more than 50 years old and in need of improvements, as well as protective maintenance and energy efficiency upgrades.

The Nov. 5 vote also included electing three new School Board members. We extend congratulations to Dawn Jalbert, Christine Bernstein and Julia Baker.

“I am looking forward to working with Dawn, Christine and Julia,” Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus said. “Thank you to the Los Alamos community for investing in the future of our students and our schools.”
