Dr. Ben Springer
LAPS News:
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) invites the public to a special presentation featuring Ben Springer, co-author of Optimistic Teaming: Coordination Strategies for Tough Student Situations, starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29 at Barranca Mesa Elementary School.
Dr. Springer is an award-winning and nationally certified school psychologist. He is also the author of several books and has served in schools as an autism specialist, school psychologist, behavior specialist, and Director of Special Education. In 2017, Dr. Springer together with Dr. Ben Belnap, founded Totem PD, a professional development company for educators and mental health practitioners.
Dr. Springer’s first book, Happy Kids Don’t Punch You in the Face, focused on strategies to address aggressive behaviors in school. LAPS has subscribed to his web-based application, Totem PD, since 2019. Now in his new book, Optimistic Teaming, Dr. Springer focuses on addressing challenging behaviors through a team approach. Through Optimistic Teaming, he shares practical strategies that help teams stay focused on solutions, even when situations feel overwhelming.
Dr. Springer will also be meeting with LAPS Special Education and related services staff during the morning and afternoon sessions.
“We are looking forward to Dr. Springer’s presentation and encourage the community to attend,” Student Services Coordinator Karla Crane said. “This is an exciting opportunity for our staff and the community.”
