LAPS Foundation News:
The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation (LAPS Foundation) announces Los Alamos High School graduating seniors Elise Chavez, Isabella Manzanares and Jason Pieck as the graduating seniors selected for the 2022 Sophia Feldman Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Sophia Feldman, a Los Alamos High School student who passed away in September 2019. Sophia was passionate about helping and supporting people. She had many interests, including dance, music, and speech and debate. In Sophia’s honor the scholarships are awarded to students for their exemplary academic and personal conduct combined with participating in mentoring, anti-bullying, social justice, or related activities.
Congratulations to the students selected to receive the scholarship this year, all of whom were classmates of Sophia:
- Chavez will attend the University of New Mexico in the fall;
- Manzanares plans to become an art teacher and will be attending either Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., or the University of New Mexico; and
- Pieck will attend the University of California, Davis, with plans to study mechanical engineering.
The Sophia Feldman Memorial Scholarship is administered by the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, an independent organization that supports, challenges, and invests in a successful future for all Los Alamos public school students.
