LAPS News:

Chartwells Food Service welcomes students and staff back to school and is making lunch nutritious and tasty at all school sites.

“We look forward to serving many of your favorite entrees,” said Director Oscar Valtierra of Dining Services. “We are also planning to introduce some amazing new chef-inspired dishes for students and staff to try this year.”

Los Alamos Public Schools has partnered with Chartwells for the past several years to offer hot lunch service to students at all school sites in the district. Each meal is well-balanced, nutritional and tasty.

Chartwells also has provided meals for special events and meetings.

“I love working with the people here at LAPS,” said Assistant Director Carmela Alvarez of Dining Services.

Every Los Alamos Public School lunchroom will continue to offer a free meal option for students who qualify for “free” lunch status. Students who qualify for “reduced” lunch status will continue to pay only 40 cents per meal served. However, not all food options in the cafeteria are part of this program. There are ala-carte and alternate meal choices in the cafeteria that require payment. If your student has a question about which options are part of the free meal program, they can ask one of the friendly cafeteria associates and their questions will be discreetly answered.

Students can pay for lunch with cash or school lunch accounts in good standing. Families may create an account through School Cafe (www.schoolcafe.com) and add funds that can be used to purchase lunch. Students at the high school also may use a credit card as acceptable payment.

LAPS encourages every family to complete the Free and Reduced Meal Program application regardless of income status. This not only ensures that those eligible receive this benefit, but also provides funding for LAPS. Click to download a copy of the Free and Reduced Meal Program application. Email the completed form to j.palmer@laschools.net.
