LAPD: Two New Geese Released Today In Ashley Pond

The brown and white goslings left abandoned at the pond in late May are shown May 26 sitting together on a rock next to Gwen, center, and Ed. The pair have been cared for away from the pond, and today after veterinary assessment determined they are now old enough to live on the pond and safely adapt to the environment there, were released today back to the pond. Editor’s note: The community is invited to submit suggested names for the brown and white geese to caclark@ladailypost.com with ‘Geese’ in the subject line. LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department has announced that two “new” geese were released back to Ashley Pond today. They are the two goslings left abandoned at the pond in late May of this year. They are finally old enough to live on the pond and safely adapt to the environment there.

LAPD is following the advice of  Dr. Kathleen Ramsay of the New Mexico Wildlife Center to release them back into Ashley Pond. Dr. Ramsay assessed both geese prior to their reintroduction.

The brown one is a male and Dr. Ramsay stated that it is a little too early to tell if the white one is a male or female.

Animal control has not named the geese.

“We know how much the town cares for the animals at the pond and decided we would like to leave it up to the town to come up with their names,” Cmdr. Preston Ballew said.

Animal control would like to remind everyone not to release animals or take animals from the pond.

“We are continually monitoring and caring for the animals we currently have there,” Cmdr. Ballew said. “The two geese have been raised around children and a dog and are overall friendly. They do like to follow people around but do not have a history of biting anyone. Please remember to be kind to them and let them adapt to their new home comfortably.
