Chief Dino Sgambellone
LAPD News:
Today, Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics for the first quarter of 2016, which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department.
Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. The offenses of murder (homicide), rape, robbery and aggravated assault make up the violent crime category. The offenses of arson, burglary, larceny, and auto theft make up the property crime category. Both of these categories combined are referred to as Part I Offenses.
During the first quarter of 2016, officers responded to a total of 38 overall Part 1 Offense complaints, which represents a 17 percent decrease as compared to 46 offenses during the same period in 2015. Violent crime increased from four offenses in 2015 to six in 2016, a 50 percent increase. Property crime decreased by 24 percent from 42 in 2015 to 32 in 2016.
While still statistically low, the total 2016 violent crimes for first quarter are higher than 2015. Additionally, 2016 first quarter auto thefts are already at the 2015 yearly level. Although property crime has decreased as compared to the first quarter of 2015, the Los Alamos Police Department encourages residents to continue securing their valuables, vehicles, and homes, in order to deter crime in the community.
