Los Alamos National Laboratory retiree Fred Berl, who played the Creature in the Los Alamos Light Opera’s Young Frankenstein, has gone from terrorizing villagers to writing novels.
He introduces The Warsaw Gambit, a gripping new thriller that plunges readers into a dangerous world of espionage, geopolitical tension, and covert operations. Driven by stolen military technology and the race to prevent it from falling permanently into hostile hands, the novel delivers a tense and timely story of loyalty, revenge, and international consequences.
At the center of the story is a deadly act of betrayal. A Russian FSB agent murders to obtain T-90 tank technology designed to make the vehicles invulnerable to countermeasures. Recognizing the catastrophic implications of the theft, the inventor, Dr. Chandra, secretly reaches out to Carl Stockwell, a former student and ex-CIA agent, for protection. What begins as a plea for safety quickly evolves into a dangerous mission with global stakes. Carl assembles a Polish Ukrainian covert team and leads a high-risk effort to recover the stolen technology from deep inside Russia.
