LAPS News:

The State Speech/Debate tournament will be hosted by Los Alamos High School and Los Alamos Middle School Thursday, Feb. 26. There will be approximately 350 students, along with their coaches and chaperones, arriving at LAMS that afternoon.

To accommodate the facility needs associated with this tournament, LAMS students will be dismissed at 1 p.m., that day in order to utilize LAMS for the registration of participants and for State Speech and Debate competitions in the afternoon and evening.

Because it is the first day of the tournament, registration must occur before the tournament itself begins. This means that between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, coaches, chaperones and competitors will begin to arrive at LAMS so that registration may be completed in time for the tournament to begin at 3 p.m.  LAMS students are being dismissed early to mitigate congestion and safety concerns that would result from attempting to deliver LAMS students home and getting competitors, coaches and judges onto the LAMS campus.

Classes at LAMS will resume Friday, Feb. 27 at the regularly scheduled time and will dismiss at the normal time.

LAPS appreciates the community’s support of this prestigious event and look forward to hosting the tournament. The community is invited to watch competitions, volunteer to judge, or assist with this tournament. Should you be interested in helping with the tournament, contact Margo Batha at m.batha@laschools.net.
