Los Alamos Light Opera (LALO) announces auditions for its 2019 production of The Addams Family, a new musical comedy directed by Cindy Hines, with musical direction by Gretchen Amstutz and produced by Laurie Tomlinson.
The beloved characters from the classic television series come to life on the stage, with book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, for an evening of fun and games that are creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky and altogether ooky!
Auditions are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1 and 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St in Los Alamos. Callbacks will be scheduled, if needed.
Comfortable clothes and shoes are suggested for the audition. The first portion of the audition will be for dance and movement. Choreographer Brooke Davis will teach short segments of dances and the production team will observe the performance of segments in pairs or small groups.
Persons interested in auditioning for a major role or the chorus should come prepared with 32 bars of music to sing, including sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. A synopsis of the show and other information can be found at Theatrical Rights Worldwide/The Addams Family. Cold readings from the script will be required for those auditioning for major roles.
Anyone interested in auditioning who cannot make the scheduled times can arrange an alternate time by emailing Cindy Hines at LALOAddamsFamily@gmail.com.
Performance dates for this musical are Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 25 and 26 and Nov. 1 and 2 with a matinee Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Duane Smith Auditorium.
From the producer: The Addams Family features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.
Cast includes: Gomez Addams, Morticia Addams, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday Addams, Pugsley Addams, Lurch, Mal Beineke, Alice Beineke, Lucas Beineke and the Addams Ancestors (chorus members).
