RED RIVER — The community is invited to join the fun at Mardi Gras in The Mountains, the biggest party in New Mexico, happening Feb. 8-13.

This year’s theme, Bubbles and Bowties, ensures a week-long extravaganza packed with excitement. Originating in 1992 under the Red River Chamber of Commerce, this beloved event is now proudly sponsored by the REX Foundation.

Special guests for the 2024 Mardi Gras in The Mountains include Zoe Mintz from KRQE Channel 13 in Albuquerque, NM, and Ali Allison from KFDA 10 Channel in Amarillo, Texas. These esteemed personalities will grace the festivities, adding their unique charm and energy to the already lively event. 

Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun shares her excitement for the upcoming Mardi Gras festivities, saying, “Mardi Gras in The Mountains captures the vibrant spirit of our community, offering a lively celebration that showcases the heart and soul of Red River. I’m honored to be part of this cherished tradition, eagerly anticipating the joyful atmosphere, lively parades, and memorable moments shared among residents and visitors alike.”

Max Khudiakov, Director of Economic Development & Tourism for the Town of Red River, emphasizes the significance of Mardi Gras In The Mountains, stating, “It’s not just a local tradition; it’s also a highlight on the regional tourism calendar. Every year, visitors come to Red River to join in the vibrant festivities, contributing to our community’s economic vitality and showcasing our town’s warmth and hospitality to the wider world.” 

This year’s Mardi Gras In The Mountains offers six days and nights of continuous entertainment. Festivities start with an exciting Thursday night street parade, setting the stage for a memorable week ahead.

Throughout the week, attendees can enjoy two street parades, performances by acclaimed Cajun musicians, and the vibrant ambiance of various parties and venues. The grand finale, the Fat Tuesday Ball at the Bull O The Woods, promises an evening of unparalleled delight with music, dancing, and boundless merriment.
