LAHS Cross Country
The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Girls and Boys Cross Country teams easily won the Class 4-2A District Championship Friday afternoon at Kit Carson Park in Taos, running against Española Valley, Moriarty, Taos and Pojoaque Valley.
Hilltopper senior Emma Montoya led the Girls race by a wide margin from the start, winning in a time of 20:08. She was followed by teammates Anna Wetteland (21:07) and Zorah Fullop (21:12) to sweep the top-3 places. ’Toppers Mila Moseley (22:07) and Rebecca Beaux (22:09) finished in 9th and 10th places, respectively, also achieving All-District honors. Nyla Lee (13th, 22:45), Sadie Evans (20th, 23:07), Lena Ronning (24th, 23:47), and Lucy Kelley (25th, 23:49) rounded out the Hilltopper crew.Â
Hilltopper sophomore Duane Sena was individual District Champion in the Boys race in a time of 17:51, followed by teammate Jack Ammerman in the runner-up position in a time of 18:10. Beck Ellis (5th, 19:02), Eddie Gartz (6th, 19:03), Benjamin Sanchez (8th, 19:05), Michael Bane (9th, 19:09), and Armando Inbody (10th, 19:11) achieved All-District honors, as the ’Toppers took seven of the top-10 places. Will Gartz (18th, 20:17) and Brayden Allen (24th, 20:36) rounded out the Hilltopper Boys team.
Both teams are positioned to place very well in the State Championship, to be held Saturday, Nov. 5 at Albuquerque Academy.
