LAHS Varsity Volleyball: Toppers 3 – Santa Fe 0

SPORTS News:

The Toppers varsity volleyball team improved their record to 5-2 on Wednesday night with a 3-0 non-district win over the visiting Santa Fe Demons (4-2).

Los Alamos won the first game 25-17 with Briana Montano taking over serve with the Demons leading 17-16. On serve Monatano led the Toppers for 8 consecutive points winning 25-17.

Strong serving by Sierra Foley and Ashlynn Trujillo powered the Toppers to a 25-20 win in set number two. The third set was a real nail-biter.  The score was tied at 18 all when Montano again got the serve.

Three serves later the Toppers were up 22-18, but then Sam Estrada the Demons coach inserted Alayna Montano to serve. She had not seen action prior to this, but she proceeded to serve for two straight points. That’s when Topper coach Sharleen Espinoza called time-out. The Toppers got a side out and won the game 25-23 on a tip kill by Sierra Foley.

Foley ended with 15 kills; Montano had 8. The Topper C-team won 25-11 and 25-14 on 14 service points by freshman Kyla Sandoval. Santa Fe took the JV match 25-14 and 26-24 winning the final 3 points after the Toppers had a lead at 24-23.
