Pre-game Summary:
The Los Alamos boys basketball team will host the first round contest of the 2022-2023 District 2-4A
tournament at 6 p.m. today in Griffith Gymnasium.
Los Alamos, along with Española Valley and Pojoaque Valley, finished tied for second place in the final 2-
4A standings, but after all tiebreakers shook out, Los Alamos finished behind both the Sundevils and
Elks. As a result, Los Alamos will have to go the long way to get to the district title game Friday night at
Taos.
The Hilltoppers (10-16 overall, 4-4 in district) will host the Moriarty Pintos Monday. Moriarty, which fell
behind the rest of the district early in the season, has surged in recent days, stunning Espanola Valley
two weeks ago.
Should the Hilltoppers win, they would have to win two consecutive games on the road to get to Friday’s
title game. The winner of the district tournament will have an automatic bid to the state tournament,
and for the Hilltoppers, it appears to be their best chance to qualify for the postseason.
Note: Tonight’s game will not be preceded by a junior varsity game and will begin promptly at 6 p.m.
