Los Alamos High School trumpeter Aaron Bao has been accepted as a finalist in the honors band for the 2013 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York next summer.
Last June, he was selected as a member of the National Association of Music Education National Honor Ensemble and performed at the Kennedy Center.
A senior, Bao has played trumpet since fifth grade. He successfully auditioned for all-state and Southwest Honor Band in 10th and 11th grade.
Other accomplishments include playing with the Los Alamos Community Winds since ninth grade, playing with the high school jazz combo, the show choir band and the Santa Fe Music Pro Champs program.
Bao has studied under nationally-renowned trumpeter and longtime former LAHS band director Jan McDonald since seventh grade.
Program Director Marion Gomez said Bao’s selection is a “direct result of the talent, dedication and achievements” demonstrated in his application.
