LAHS News:
Parents and graduating high school seniors are reminded to save the evening of graduation, 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, for the downtown, all-night community sponsored celebration known as Senior Appreciation Night (SAN).
Students who attend all events during the evening are eligible for a lottery of grand prizes worth several thousand dollars at the end of the night.
SAN was started by community members in Los Alamos in 1984, as a safe and fun way to keep graduates from the dangerous celebrations in the mountains that had resulted in the loss of several students.
Today this celebration is co-chaired by The Family YMCA (fiscal agent) and the County of Los Alamos who donate thousands of dollars of in-kind staff time and facilities; however, funding is independent of these organizations, and costs $12,000 each year to produce.
For the last two years, support has been at a drastically low level with only 21-31 parent donors versus 150 parents in past years out of 250 graduates.
In this season of giving, parents and community members may support this event by scanning the QR code below, or texting SANLA to 707070.
People who want to send a check should make it out to: The Family YMCA, and note SAN donation on the memo line, and mail it to 1450 Iris St., Los Alamos, NM 87544.
